Robert J. Adsit was a New York City artist living on the Lower East Side from about the years 1965 to his passing in 1995, gone too soon about the age of 51. Born in 1943 and given up for adoption probably a year later, Robert grew up in Clifton Park a little north of Albany with the Adsit family. Shortly after he was adopted, he gained a brother, Terrell and soon after gained a high School sweetheart Marta Waterman, who he stayed in contact with his entire life. A natural piano player and artist, Robert moved to the Big Apple in the mid-1960's where he brushed elbows with the likes of Andy Warhol and then got a job as an Art Director at Glamour Magazine.

A consummate artist, Robert created etchings, woodcuts, water colors, collages and oil paintings, setting up shop on East 9th Street where he opened up a boutique art gallery where he sold his various paintings, one of which graces the cover of this book. In 1970, he befriended Marc J. Seifer, a young college graduate taking courses in photography at the School of Visual Arts and graphology and filmmaking at the New School. Since both Marc and Robert were interested in parapsychology and higher states of consciousness, when Marc became Assistant Editor of the Journal of Occult Studies and then Editor-in-Chief of MetaScience: A New Age Journal on Consciousness, Robert helped design the journals, helped with the typesetting (this was way before home computers could do this!) and also featured some of his artwork and collages in these journals.

After he passed away, Marta contacted Marc and Terrell and together, the three amigos pooled all of the artwork that they had received from Robert. Simultaneously, Marta in particular, contacted as many of Robert's friends as she could locate so that their memories of Robert could be put together into the present volume along with any artwork that they also had received.

Robert was a true free spirit and the iconic consummate artist, a veritable genius of art in the minds of the three authors. His uncertain beginnings and primal memories of his biological mother permeates his artwork with mountain scenes often reflective of the concept of coming home. Robert was a prolific painter, incredibly creative and highly original. Marta, Terrell and Marc hope very much that you enjoy THE ART & LIFE OF ROBERT J. ADSIT! It was a true labor of love to put this book together.
